Wide-scale reconstruction of research vessel «Akademik Aleksandr Karpinsky»
Tallinn Shipyard in the end of 2014 completed the wide-scale reconstruction of research vessel «Akademik Aleksandr Karpinsky», belonging to the Russian state enterprise Polar Marine Geosurvey Expedition.
Difficult and interesting project lasted a year, during this time the vessel, built in 1984, was overhauled and significantly modernized. Equipment was delivered from seven different countries.
Particularity of this project consisted in delivery and installation of scientific equipment. Thus, the multi-beam echo-sounder Teledyne RESON GmbH for scientific activity was installed on the ship, replacement of seismograph and computing center was carried out, modern geologic winch IBERCISA was installed. Moreover, cabins and scientific labs were modernized.
Ship’s marine systems were updated, for example, the new and modern equipment was installed: bilge water separator MAHLE and hydraulic crane PALFINGER, also “П” – shaped hydraulic beam crane. The high-pressure compressors were replaced by compressors SAUER, as well as the water – desalinating plants, the modern mineralizer and ultraviolet bulbs were installed. Within the frames of modernization of the vessel’s electric power station the diesel generators VOLVO PENTA were installed and the reconstruction of the main distribution board was carried out.
A voluminous amount of work was done with the vessel’s fire-fighting and rescue systems: fire-alarm station was replaced, modern fire-fighting facilities and new lifeboats with pulling-and running mechanism were installed.
All works were completed by Tallinn Shipyard in co-operation with subsidiaries of BLRT Grupp: BLRT Rekato, BLRT ERA, MacGregor BLRT Baltic, Baltic Premator and other external partners.
