Our shipyards focused on difficult modernization projects

Three shipyards of BLRT Grupp: Tallinn Shipyard, Turku Repair Yard and Western Shiprepair, completed a series of large modernization projects, part of which constitute exhaust gases purification systems installation projects.

In the beginning of 2015 at the BLRT Grupp shipyards in Tallinn and Turku on four vessels, belonging to the Finnish shipping company Finnlines, part of Grimaldi Group, exhaust gases purification system was installed. On four Ro-Ro-type vessels - Finnkraft, Finnhawk, Finnmill and Finnpulp – the Alfa Laval Marine SOx Scrubber (Hybrid ready) exhaust gas cleaning system was installed. Each project required profound preparation cycle with manufacture of the elements of metal frameworks and piping systems. Installation of each system was completed in less than one month.

«For the first time a volume of works, entrusted to us within such type of project by the client, included all stages from a detailed project, preliminary manufacturing of systems and construction elements to installation and turn-key assembly. Projects of this kind turned to be successfully completed solely with the professional support of design bureau. The pledge of our success lied in close cooperation with the engineering bureau Western Baltic Engineering. The precise timing of works from the customer’s part, coordinated by Finnlines Purchasing Department with Thomas Doepel at its head is also noteworthy. Important part played Alfa Laval engineers as well», - marked Gabriel Avanesov, marketing director of BLRT Grupp shipyards.

Realization of the project was started in September 2014 and completed in February 2015. Two ship passed modernization at the BLRT Grupp shipyard in Tallinn and another two at the concern’s shipyard in Naantali. For successful realization of this project the subcontractors –members of BLRT Grupp concern, as BLRT Rekato, BLRT ERA – were engaged. BLRT Rekato once again successfully coped with the manufacturing of GRE- pipes, requiring certified and trained personnel, which were used in construction of scrubber. BLRT ERA completed the principle amount of electric installation works.

«According to evaluation of some specialists, the total market volume for the installation of exhaust gases purification systems estimated for several milliards of euros. It is certainly a perspective branch and we try to obtain strong positions: several similar projects await us ahead and we hope to fulfill each of them with the same success», - commented Avanesov.

This project wasn’t the first one for Turku Repair Yard, which earlier, in 2014, installed scrubbers on two containerships, belonging to the Langh Ship enterprise. Installation of one scrubber, delivery of which was carried out by DeltaLangh company, took two weeks.

Along with the scrubbers installation BLRT Grupp shipyards pay a special attention to other modernization works as well, which require special preparation and qualified personnel. Thus at the Western Shiprepair shipyard in Lithuania modernization of three ro-ro type vessels - Trans Carrier, Athela and Express, belonging to the leader of Norwegian waterborne traffic - Sea Cargo company - was completed. After the installation of the side ramp vessels got an opportunity for the independent load without extra costs.
